Health visitors are a key part of the community health services. They are qualified nurses or midwives with additional training and expertise in child health, health promotion, and education. Some health visitors specialize in working with older people and their carer’s, while others focus on children’s health.
8-Week Baby Checks and First Immunizations
Both our Wembley and Willesden locations offer 8-week baby checks, which include a comprehensive health assessment of your baby, as well as the first immunizations to protect against a range of serious diseases.
The 8-week check is a crucial milestone in your baby’s early development, and it allows our healthcare professionals to monitor your baby’s growth, development, and general health, while also addressing any concerns you may have as a new parent.
What Happens During the 8-Week Check?
- A thorough physical examination of your baby.
- Developmental milestone assessments.
- First immunizations, including vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), polio, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), along with the first dose of the rotavirus vaccine.
- Guidance on baby care, feeding, and sleep routines.
- Opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns with a health professional.
Subsequent Childhood Immunizations
After the initial 8-week check, our clinics continue to offer subsequent childhood immunisations to ensure your child is protected from preventable diseases at the recommended ages, such as 12 weeks, 16 weeks, and 3 years.
These vaccinations are a key part of your child’s healthcare plan, and we ensure that they are administered in a safe and welcoming environment.
Vaccinations include:
- 12-week immunizations: Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), polio, Hib, and meningitis B, as well as the second dose of the rotavirus vaccine.
- 16-week immunizations: Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), polio, Hib, and meningitis C.
- Pre-school booster at age 3, which includes diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), and polio vaccines.
Developmental Reviews
In addition to the 8-week check and immunizations, our clinics provide regular developmental reviews by health visitors to monitor your child’s growth, motor skills, speech, and cognitive development. These reviews are designed to ensure your child is hitting key developmental milestones and to offer guidance on nutrition, sleep, and general well-being.
